Clone Town
Something is happening in our local communities and towns, it has been seen before in nature by invasive knot weed (a invasive species). Knot weed was introduced to Britain along time ago as a good idea, to produce pretty flowers and it was hoped would be a productive crop. When we weren't looking it got out of control. Knot weed began to take over and suffocate the local ecosystem. A similar thing is happening to our local economy. Chain stores, Clone stores and big supermarkets are taking over, snuffing out the life of the local economy and communities. Our Towns and Cities are loosing their identities.
Clone Town Exhibition
In this exhibition "Clone Town" I wanted to create an experience that tells the story of the Clone Town. I chose to create an interactive space, a set in which the viewer can become part of the art. I chose to give reference to London Underground Tube stations, as the underground for me is a fascinating enclosed space. Commuters are exposed to particular forms of advertisement and I wanted to manipulate this within my practice. I have always been interested and inspired by The London undergrounds own advertising campaigns which have been in service for the last 100 years. The London Underground and London transport have made more creative use of poster art than any other organisation in the World and I wanted to celebrate this within my work.
